Western Art by Marti Miller HubbellMarti Miller Hubbell’s paintings literally illustrate her life and her California heritage. She lives on the ranch near Hollister, California, where her husband, John, was raised, and where they base their stocker cattle operation. Marti was raised on a cattle ranch in southern San Benito County that her great-grandfather homesteaded in 1882.
Marti, a self-taught artist, had to “postpone” pursuing her desire for a career in art while she raised a family and worked full time as a legal secretary. After 30+ years in law offices, she recently was able to “retire” and pursue her dream of capturing the western lifestyle of yesterday and today in her artwork. In addition to her art, Marti now has the time to help her husband in their day-to-day ranching operation, which is an ongoing source of inspiration for chronicling the western lifestyle. An award-winning artist, Marti prefers to work in colored pencil and oils, but she occasionally uses graphite or acrylics. She has a personal connection with her subjects as they are typically her family, friends, and neighbors, in situations she has experienced first hand.
